Total records = 403.
The cemetery is located on Sandgate Road approximately 3 1/2 miles north of 313W on the north side of the Sandgate community. This cemetery, which was the first one in Sandgate, was established in the late 1700s as the 'Hillside Cemetery'. It was situated on the hill behind the Meeting House of the Congregational Church. At some time later the name of the cemetery was changed to Sandgate Center Cemetery.
As with most cemeteries there are many gravestones showing no markings, either worn over a long period of time, or perhaps never having been marked. The earliest recorded gravesite is
that of Capt. Nathaniel Jones who died Feb 06, 1794. I walked and read this cemetery in Oct of 2006. This includes all existing and legible stones and markers I was able to complete. I will return in the spring to check for more.
A work in progress.
